2 to 5 credit hours - This course is repeatable for a maximum of 20 hours.
MEETING TIME & PLACE: Arranged with the faculty person.
This is an honors course available to undergraduate seniors. It is designed by the student in consultation with a professor of their choice. Student is evaluated based on fulfilling the goals of their project proposal.
A new and ongoing
focus has been placed on Honors and other capable undergraduate students through
this growing program. Undergraduate students with the potential and initiative
with two to four quarters remaining in their degree program
propose research projects that will add intense and additional emphasis to
their academic program.
Students from all areas have participated in the Honors Program. One-on-one
independent study with a faculty advisor for the usual two to three quarter
effort is an attribute of the program, as is the quality of the resulting
final exhibition, written thesis/report on the project and the oral review
by a three-faculty member committee.
Past participants have completed graduate degree programs and have received
further recognition for their work as artists and through teaching positions
at other colleges and universities. For the past four years, students in this
program have received top awards in the university wide Undergraduate Research
Forum.
This course is an
opportunity for the student to do independent research in the pursuit of their
artistic goals and is often used to produce work for senior honors project
along with a written thesis.
The student is advised to take this course with a faculty member from whom
they would like to receive creative and critical input. Go to the Art
and Technology people page to locate a possible faculty member. Faculty
members from Art and Technology can oversee your honors project.
